velveteen alpacas, LLC

We started raising alpacas in the summer of 2005.  It was about the same time we got serious about growing lavender.  We decided to have two enterprises that fit together nicely for us, since we love raising animals and growing plants.

We started with 8 alpacas and about 1500 young lavender plants.  We named the alpaca biz “Velveteen Alpacas” after the children’s book “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Margery Williams.  It’s about a toy velveteen rabbit that becomes real from the love of a child.  The lavender farm is called “Willakenzie Lavender” after the name of the soil type.  We seem to be able to grow just about anything in this wonderful willakenzie-type soil, in this temperate part of the pacific northwest.

Schedule a trip to Yamhill County and take in the beautiful views, enjoy the vineyards and wine, and stop in to see us.  We’ll introduce you to our beautiful alpacas and Lila, our total sweetheart Australian Shepherd.  You’re welcome to spend time in the cool “Willakenzie Farm and Gift Shop.”   Please visit our lavender farm website www.willakenzielavender.com to learn more about the lavender we grow and the lavender product line we offer.    In our gift shop you’ll find our lavender bath and body care products, our lavender culinary line,  plus tools, books, linens and stationery for the avid gardener.  You will also find the most beautiful alpaca yarns you’ve ever seen, plus alpaca rugs, toys, sweaters, scarves, hats, gloves and more.
